Light and airy or dark and moody?
Chances are you’ve heard a photographer describe his or her style as either “light and airy” or “dark and moody.'“ These are convenient ways to describe two current trends. At Kate Colton Studios, however, our work doesn’t fit neatly into either of these categories. In a word, our style is unique. Here’s why:
We prefer a more balanced approach to lighting and editing, focusing on natural tones. This gives your images a timeless and versatile look. Our clients typically request or prefer a style palette that’s neither excessively bright or excessively dark.
Why don’t we choose one or the other editing trend?
Location and Lighting
Conditions: The environments we shoot in (whether outdoor, studio, or a mix) could influence our editing style. Some locations lend themselves to neutral tones or a mix of bright and shadowed areas.Post-Processing Choices:
Our editing decisions might not align with the typical presets or filters associated with light and airy (bright, desaturated, soft) or dark and moody (deep shadows, high contrast, rich colors). Our Signature Style: Timeless images that won’t look dated in 5, 10 or 20 years—and, most importantly, help you to look your very best!
